Primary care professionals can benefit from a new asthma mentorship programme (AMP).

The new programme – running in partnership between Frimley ICS and independent nurse provider, National Services for Health Improvement Limited – has been developed to increase the knowledge and confidence of health care professionals in delivering Asthma Clinical Reviews to guideline level standards.

Aimed at practice nurses, clinical pharmacists and other health care professionals who deliver asthma care in primary care, the Teva UK Limited sponsored programme – which is also part of the IMPACT service (Improving the Management of Patients’ Asthma and COPD Treatment) – is centred on eight core sections including:

  • Knowledge of Asthma Guidelines
  • Documenting Patient History
  • Asthma Medication
  • Asthma Control
  • Clinical Measurements
  • Inhaler Technique Assessment
  • Personalised Asthma Action Plan
  • Remote Reviews

The programme – which is available until the end of 2021 will be delivered one-to-one in practices over four full days by a respiratory nurse specialist from NHSI Ltd.

For more information and to take up the offer, contact Jennifer Gibbs via email: or phone: 07890 632 632 by 31 July 2021. You will also need to send Jennifer:

  • Your practice name
  • Asthma list size
  • Contact name
  • Direct contact details: phone/email
  • Name of healthcare professional requesting mentorship
  • Healthcare professional’s asthma qualifications/experience
  • Typical number of asthma patients reviewed per month

Please note: Depending on the uptake across the ICS, the mentorship programme will be allocated on a priority basis; considering the needs of the practice (as identified by the ICS) and those of the individual, including the volume of patients each applicant reviews on a monthly basis.
